NUA Open Day and Degree Show
Sunday 12th July 2015
When I attended the Norwich University of the Arts open day I was delighted to find that my visit coincided with the degree show, so naturally I had a peek. I have to say that it was a fantastic way of advertising the university and it showed off the outstanding quality of the students' work. The vast array of garments were immaculately constructed and beautifully designed; this is testament to the conscientious students and attentive course leaders. Although I am hoping to study fashion promotion and communication rather than fashion design at university, the immensely creative dynamic at the university was very inspiring and boosted my desire to pursue my chosen degree. As a whole the university seemed like the perfect creative community in which to further my education and refine my skills to give me the best chance in my future career.

My Week With Debenhams...
Friday 26th June 2015
This time last week I was finishing my time at Debenhams' head office. I had spent the week with the lovely social media/press team for some crucial work experience.
I am looking to study fashion branding and communication at university so when I was given the opportunity to get an insight into what it would be like to work in marketing at an established department store, I leapt at the chance. On the first day I was thrilled to hear that I was being sent to help out at their LCM press lounge in the Oxford Circus store. Here I spent the day greeting journalists and bloggers such as Prince Cassius. I chatted to them about how they were finding the shows and encouraged them to enter the "dress the mannequin" competition that Debenhams was running. Then for the rest of the week I was based at the head office just off Warren Street. I was so flattered at the amount of responsibility they were prepared to give me as I was able to produce several topical Pinterest boards, help out with shoots, produce competitor reports, draft posts and gather inspiration for future social media postings. |
I'm so grateful for the generosity of the ladies at head office because the experience I gained in that week was truly invaluable. It also further fueled my desire to strive for my dream career in this fiercely competitive industry.
First Women Awards
Sunday 14th June 2015
On Thursday this week I went to The First Women Awards in Grosvenor Square. My Godmother (pictured bottom left) was presenting an award as she was sponsoring the awards. This meant that I was lucky enough to get an invite to the event.
This was such an inspirational evening and it really opened my eyes to the wide array of incredible achievements so many women have attained in the world of business, from engineering to finance. It was also very empowering as the main message carried through the evening was that women have a duty to support and better the lives of other women. I want to spread this message to more women, so therefore I urge you to make it your mission to aid other women to succeeed or recognise their achievements. As Katja Hall said, "I look forward to a day when everyone has the best chance to succeed in work, whoever they are, whatever their background. For me, that wouldn’t just represent progress, it would be a real turning point for wider diversity.” |
